06 May 2025

As part of the ongoing collaboration between the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) and the Office of the Inspector General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), the sixth edition of the human rights training program will commence tomorrow, Wednesday, May 7, 2025. The program targets personnel of the NIA with the aim of enhancing their understanding of human rights and strengthening compliance with national legislation and relevant international standards.

On this occasion, Eng. Ali Ahmed Alderazi, Chairperson of NIHR, stated that the program falls within the Institution’s comprehensive framework to promote a culture of human rights and to develop institutional capacity within security agencies. He emphasized the Institution’s commitment to delivering specialized training programs tailored to the nature of each participating entity’s work, based on international standards and best national practices.

For his part, Mr. Mohammed Rashid Al-Rumaihi, Inspector General of the NIA, praised the ongoing collaboration with the NIHR, affirming that this training partnership reflects the Agency’s commitment to enhancing professionalism and human rights responsibility in the conduct of its personnel, in line with the directives of the wise leadership to embed human rights principles within the national security framework.

The training program covers a range of key topics, including: the promotion of citizenship values; rights and freedoms within the context of the Constitutional Court; the international legal framework governing the operations of intelligence agencies in light of the two International Covenants and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights; as well as legal challenges related to criminal investigations in terrorism-related cases.

The program - which builds on the success of previous editions that significantly contributed to reinforcing human rights concepts among participants and highlighted the importance of integrating human rights principles into the security system - will be delivered by a distinguished group of experts and specialists from both within and outside the National Institution. This will ensure the provision of high-quality academic and practical content that enhances participants' legal and professional competencies.
