NIHR Conducts a Visit to the Correction and Rehabilitation Centre

07 Jun 2023

In response to a case reported by a non-government organisation to the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) that a number of inmates have not received the proper healthcare, and within the framework of the broad mandate granted to the NIHR and its competencies pursuant to its Establishment Law, the NIHR Committee on Visiting Detention Places and Facilities represented by the Head of Committee, has conducted an inspection visit to the Correction and Rehabilitation Centre in Jaw region, with a view to verifying the conditions of inmates and the treatment they receive, and ensuring that they enjoy all their prescribed rights in accordance with what is stated in international standards and national legislation related to human rights.

During the visit, a number of inmates were met individually, and their opinions and observations about their living conditions in the centre were heard.  All their observations and requests were recorded, which will be included in the visit report with recommendations that will be submitted later to the concerned authorities to take the necessary measures.

The NIHR can be contacted through the toll-free hotline (80001144), smartphone mobile application (NIHR Bahrain), the NIHR website www.nihr.org.bh or by personal attendance to the NIHR headquarters in Seef district.
