Statement from the NIHR Chairperson Regarding the Extension of the Noon Work Ban for Three Months

08 Sep 2024

Eng. Ali Ahmed Alderazi, the Chairperson of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), expressed his appreciation for the Cabinet's decision to extend the noon work ban from June 15 to September 15, beginning in 2025. He highlighted that this decision underscores the government's commitment, under the leadership of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to enhance labor rights and safeguard workers from the hazards of working in severe climatic conditions, particularly during months with significant temperature increases. This move is part of broader efforts to improve labor standards and effectively uphold workers' rights.

Alderazi noted that this directive is in line with the strategies previously endorsed by NIHR in 2019. He also mentioned that the institution launched an initiative that year to address violations involving the employment of workers in environments exposed to direct sunlight, specifically from 12 noon to 4 PM during July and August. This initiative continues to be active.

Furthermore, Alderazi emphasized that NIHR diligently monitors any cases related to human rights concerns, advises stakeholders on following international standards, and can be contacted for support or information through the toll-free hotline 80001144.
