NIHR Launches the First Activities of the “Young Human Rights Advocate” Program
The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) launched the first activities of the “Young Human Rights Advocate” Program as part of its efforts to promote a culture of human rights among children. The program aims to raise children’s awareness of their rights and responsibilities, enhance their skills in expressing their views and participating in decision-making, instill the values of citizenship and belonging, and introduce them to the role of national institutions in protecting and promoting human rights.
The program commenced with an awareness lecture delivered by the General Directorate of Traffic at the Ministry of Interior, entitled “Child Safety and Road Safety Procedures.” The session was attended by Dr. Maha Al Shehab, Commissioner for Child Rights at NIHR, with the participation of 20 children aged 9–18, including members of the Friends of the Commissioner for Child Rights Team and other children from the public. The program runs from 30 July to 20 August 2026.
The program includes a series of field visits to several official entities, as well as awareness-raising and interactive workshops and lectures organized in cooperation with relevant stakeholders. These activities aim to enrich children’s knowledge and develop their skills through practical and interactive experiences, reflecting NIHR’s commitment to providing high-quality programs that contribute to preparing a generation that is aware of its rights and responsibilities and capable of playing a positive role in society.
