Right to Health Working Group Holds First Meeting
Chaired by Mr. Mohammed Fuzai, the Working Group of Civil Society Organizations operating in the field of the right to health held its first meeting, during which members discussed mechanisms to promote and protect the right to health in alignment with national and international standards.
During the meeting, the concept of the right to health was reviewed in light of international human rights standards. Relevant health-related legislation and policies were examined, and their compatibility with ratified international conventions was assessed. The participants also discussed practical challenges related to ensuring equitable access to healthcare services.
The Working Group’s objectives were also presented, including strengthening frameworks for cooperation and coordination between the Institution and civil society organizations; establishing effective communication channels for the exchange of information and expertise; and proposing qualitative initiatives that contribute to the protection and promotion of human rights. Additional objectives include building members’ capacities, establishing a shared database, studying the human rights situation in the Kingdom of Bahrain, exploring mechanisms for addressing complaints, organizing joint events and training programs, and preparing studies and surveys to measure awareness levels and assess the alignment of national legislation with international standards.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Working Group emphasized the importance of maintaining regular meetings, broadening community participation, following up on the implementation of recommendations, and fostering a collaborative approach to strengthen the protection of the right to health in accordance with national and international standards, particularly for the most vulnerable groups.
