National Institution for Human Rights Visits the Child Care Home
As part of the mandate of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) to protect and promote human rights, Dr. Maha Saleh Al Shehab, Commissioner for Child Rights at the NIHR, visited the Child Care Home affiliated with the Ministry of Social Development to assess the conditions of children residing at the Home, review the level of care and services provided to them, and ascertain the extent to which they enjoy their rights as guaranteed under national legislation and relevant international standards.
During the visit, the Commissioner for Child Rights met with the Home’s management and a number of officials and staff members and reviewed the social, educational, psychological, and healthcare services provided to the children. She also met with a number of children and listened to them to learn about their conditions and needs and assess the extent to which they enjoy their fundamental rights, including healthcare, education, and appropriate accommodation, as well as the preservation of family ties and communication with their families, in a manner that takes into account their best interests.
The NIHR affirms its continued monitoring of the conditions of children and groups most in need of protection through field visits and direct monitoring, contributing to greater respect for their rights and ensuring that they receive the necessary protection and care in accordance with national legislation and international standards.
