NIHR Receives Resident Coordinator of the UN Program Activities and Resident Representative of the UN Development Program (UNDP)

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Chairperson Dr. Abdul-Aziz Hassan Abul received at the NIHR’s headquarters in the Seef District the Resident Coordinator of the UN Program Activities and Resident Representative of the UN Development Program Mr. Amin Al-Sharkawi. Present were members of the Council of Commissioners Mrs. Jameela Salman and Ms. Maria Khouri, the NIHR’s Acting Secretary General Mr. Yasser Shaheen and the NIHR’s Director of Information Technology and Communications Mr. Fahad Al-Mu’alla.

At the beginning of the meeting, the NIHR’s Chairperson expressed his thanks to Mr. Sharkawi for this visit and stated the NIHR’s desire to activate cooperation between both parties, especially in the field of exchanging expertise and training, in order to complete aspects of cooperation, and correspond with the NIHR’s goal to develop some initiatives.

On his part, the Resident Coordinator of the UN Program Activities and Resident Representative of the UN Development Program Mr. Amin Al-Sharkawi thanked the NIHR’s Chairperson for the warm welcome and praised NIHR’s participation in the training workshop on “The Role of Human Rights National Institutions in Achieving the Goals of Sustainable Development at the National Level”, which was held in Istanbul, capital of Turkey, in December 2016.

It is worth mentioning that the UN Development Program is the global development network of the United Nations, which works in 177 countries and regions.  In Kingdom of Bahrain, the Program provides technical support and assistance to the national institutions, private sector and institutions of civil society in order to achieve national priorities and address challenges.
