NIHR and the Embassy of Netherlands sign an agreement to organize a special legal training program for journalists and media professionals

Eng. Ali Ahmed Alderazi, Chairperson of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), and His Excellency Mr. Lawrence Westhoff, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands accredited to the Kingdom of Bahrain and residing in Kuwait, signed an agreement aimed at organizing a training program in human rights standards and principles for journalists and media professionals.

Alderazi emphasized the importance of this agreement, which will be implemented by both parties within their respective competencies, through a joint mechanism to enhance awareness of human rights standards and principles among journalists and media professionals, as well as related civil society institutions. He mentioned that NIHR intends to expand its approach through cooperation with Arab and international bodies to exchange expertise and enhance performance according to the best international practices related to human rights, thereby contributing to the enhancement of human rights culture and its foundations.

Ambassador Westhoff commended the NIHR’s efforts and expressed his eagerness to fortify this partnership, which is expected to enhance and expand shared programs and initiatives that focus on elevating human rights awareness and reinforcing its values within the community.

The accord is designed to deepen coordination and enhance cooperation on human rights principles between the two parties, focusing on promoting, disseminating, and implementing these standards more effectively. This cooperation will involve the creation of training initiatives by the institution to boost the legal acumen of journalists and media personnel, ensuring they are well-versed in the pertinent international human rights norms applicable to their fields.
