A delegation from the Council of Commissioners of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), headed by Dr. Malallah Alhammadi, Vice Chairperson of NIHR, carried out an announced visit to the Correction and Rehabilitation Center in “Jau” to review the educational services provided to inmates and assess their compliance with national and international human rights standards, ensuring their right to education and enhancing their chances of reintegration into society after serving their sentences.

During the visit, the delegation reviewed the admission test procedures for inmates wishing to continue their university education. These tests were organized by the General Directorate of Correction and Rehabilitation in cooperation with the General Secretariat of the Higher Education Council and supervised by a specialized team from Bahrain Polytechnic, in line with approved academic procedures.

On this initiative, Dr. Alhammadi explained that it provides eligible inmates with the opportunity to enroll in academic programs at Bahrain Polytechnic, in accordance with national and international human rights standards, particularly the right to education. He pointed out that the program combines both distance learning and in-person attendance, in a manner suitable to inmates’ circumstances and ensuring the continuity of the educational process.

He added that passing the admission test is a prerequisite for enrollment, which reflects the seriousness and readiness of those wishing to continue their education. He further stressed the importance of the efforts made by the relevant authorities to support inmates’ right to education, considering it a positive step that contributes to empowering them and preparing them for reintegration into society.
