NIHR Organizes a Field Visit for the Friends of the Child Rights Commissioner to the Ministry of Social Development

As part of the ongoing field visits organized by the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) under the “Influential Child Rights Leaders” program — launched in cooperation with FranklinCovey Education – Middle East, the Smile Initiative, and the Al-Kawhaji Charity Foundation, under the slogan “It’s Your Right” — the Institution organized a new field visit for the Friends of the Child Rights Commissioner to the Ministry of Social Development, as part of its continuous efforts to promote a culture of human rights among children.
During the visit, participating children were introduced to the Ministry’s key initiatives and services aimed at protecting children’s rights. Ms. Fakhriya Al-Sayyed Shubber, Supervisor of the Child Protection Centre, and Ms. Raja Al-Ajmi, Supervisor of Custodial Care Homes, provided an overview of the Centre’s departments, objectives, and services, in addition to introducing the Child Support and Helpline and its vital role in responding promptly to emergency cases.
Major Engineer Fawz Mohammed Ali, Head of the Child Protection in Cyberspace Unit, presented an overview of the most significant online risks that children may encounter while using the internet, as well as the best digital protection practices that both children and their parents can adopt to prevent such risks. She also outlined the methods and channels available for contacting the Unit to report any instances of children being exposed to these dangers.
These visits aim to enable children to become more familiar with institutions concerned with human rights, enhance their awareness of the rights guaranteed to them under national legislation and international conventions, and equip them with dialogue and participation skills on issues that matter to them.
