NIHR participates in observing Parliamentary and Municipal Elections 2018

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) announced its participation in the observation of parliamentary and municipal elections 2018, which shall be held on Saturday 24 November 2018, in order to ensure integrity, fairness, good implementation and smooth procedures of the elections, through an interim committee for observation of parliamentary and municipal elections, headed by Dr. Bader Mohamed Adel, Member of NIHR’s Council of Commissioners and Head of the Committee on Civil and Political Rights, and membership of Dr. Khalifa bin Ali Al Fadhel, NIHR’s Secretary General.

The field committee’s teams shall observe the independence and impartiality of the elections and monitor the course of electoral processes through their field presence in a number of polling centers, and shall provide its supervisory center, based on NIHR’s headquarters in Seef district, with all the data and notes related to the course of the electoral process.

The NIHR’s participation in the observation of parliamentary and municipal elections is based upon its capacity as an independent body under its Incorporation Law, which complies with the Paris Principles governing the work of national human rights institutions around the world, being accredited by the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI).  The NIHR also has various experiences in the area of the observation of elections, as it participated in observing legislative elections in a number of States.
