NIHR participates in a Regional Workshop Program on "Human Rights, Elections and Role of National Institutions of Human Rights"

HE Mr. Farid Ghazi, Member of Council of Commissioners and Chairperson of the NIHR Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and HE Counselor-at-Law Yasser Ghanem Shaheen, Assistant Secretary-General (Acting Secretary-General) participated in opening the Regional Workshop on Human Rights, Elections and the Role of National Institutions of Human Rights , organized by the Arab Network for National Institutions for Human Rights and the UNDP Regional Office.

Dr. Ali Al Muri, Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee of Qatar, Dr. Musa Brezat, Commissioner General of the National Center for Human Rights and Head of Arab Network of National Institutions and Mr. Khalid Abdulshafi, Regional Director of United the Nations Development Programme in Jordan gave speeches at the opening session.

The workshop will continue for a period of three days comprising 11 sessions focusing on the election process, human rights, the role played  by National Institutions for Human Rights, legal framework of elections in the Arab world, rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and of association, right to participate in the public affairs, right to election and nomination, freedom of opinion and expression and right of women to participate in the election process. Each Arab national institution will present its electoral process monitoring experience  and the role they played in defending the right to participation in the political life.
