14 Oct 2026

As part of its academic partnership with the College of Law at the University of Bahrain, the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) launched the first lectures of its Legal Clinic and Human Rights Training Programme, welcoming 15 students from the 27th cohort. The programme aims to enhance their legal and research skills while providing opportunities to bridge academic knowledge with practical experience in the field of human rights.

The programme commenced with an introductory lecture delivered by Ms. Fatima Al Tarif, Head of the Training and Education Section at NIHR. The lecture provided an overview of the Institution, its legal framework, and its mandate to promote and protect human rights. It also outlined the programme's key components, intended learning outcomes, and the skills participants are expected to develop. The session included a screening of an introductory film highlighting NIHR's work and major activities.

Running from September to December 2026, during the first semester of the 2026–2027 academic year, the programme comprises more than 15 lectures and training sessions combining theoretical knowledge with practical application. Activities include planning and implementing human rights awareness initiatives, drafting legal opinions on complaints, preparing monitoring reports, conducting research using electronic resources, and developing advisory opinions on aligning national legislation with international human rights standards. These activities aim to equip students with the knowledge and practical competencies needed to address a wide range of human rights issues effectively and professionally.

The continuation of this programme reflects the longstanding cooperation between NIHR and the University of Bahrain. Through 27 cohorts, the Institution has contributed to the training of more than 300 students, reaffirming its commitment to investing in young talent and developing a new generation of qualified legal professionals capable of contributing to the promotion and protection of human rights and fostering a culture of human rights throughout society.
