14 Sep 2021

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Committee on Visiting Detention Places and Facilities has conducted a field visit to Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre in order to monitor the level of health services provided to everyone.

During the visit, the Committee met with a number of members of the National Medical Task Force for Combating the Coronavirus (COVID-19), and conducted interviews with medical staff to monitor the extent of commitment to the precautionary measures, and adherence to human rights standards stipulated in international laws and charters during crises.  The Committee also interviewed a number of individuals who received the vaccine to know their feedback on the measures taken and review closely the health care provided to them while receiving one of the anti-Covid-19 vaccines.

This visit falls within the framework of the oversight role of the NIHR, and complements its plan to follow-up on the application of standards related to the protection and promotion of human rights in Covid-19 examination, isolation and quarantine procedures, to prepare reports and recommendations related to the human rights situation, and to send them to the concerned authorities.
