NIHR receives Judge at European Court for Human Rights

Ms. Maria Khoury, Chairperson of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), stated that the Kingdom of Bahrain is moving steadily to foster all that is related to the promotion of human rights values and principles under the State of institutions and the rule of law, thanks to the support by the wise leadership to promote the culture of human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain and build a strong national system that supports its principles and pillars.

Ms. Khoury explained that all sections and components the Bahraini people coexist in harmony without discrimination, under the royal patronage of the values and reality of tolerance and coexistence that have made the Kingdom a leading model in this aspect.

This was during her reception of Judge Nicolas Litteri at the European Court for Human Rights, in the presence of HE Mr. Domenico Bellato, Ambassador of the Republic of Italy to the Kingdom of Bahrain, Mr. Mohamed Al-Hazaa, Acting Head of the Special Investigation Unit, Mr. Khaled Alshaer, NIHR’s Vice-Chairperson, Dr. Malallah Alhammadi, Member of the NIHR’s Council of Commissioners and Counselor Yasser Shaheen, Secretary-General of the NIHR, where Ms. Khoury welcomed the attendees, and gave a brief on the NIHR and its objectives, competencies and mechanism of dealing with all issues related to human rights.

The attendees appreciated the statement by Judge Litteri that the Kingdom of Bahrain's work on combating torture and enhancing the efficiency of human rights institutions through legislation and laws has included the human rights standards applied in European countries.  He also appreciated the important human rights role played by the NIHR at the local and international level, being one of the national mechanisms for the promotion and protection of human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
