National Institution for Human Rights organizes a joint training on "regional and international mechanisms for the promotion and protection of human rights"

The National Institution for Human Rights organized a training session on "regional and international mechanisms for the promotion and protection of human rights" in cooperation with the National Human Rights Committee of Qatar and the Isa Cultural center of the Kingdom of Bahrain, in order to activate the principle of partnership with local, regional and international bodies concerned with human rights.

The session, which was held on Monday, May 16, was opened with the participation of more than 100 representatives of ministries, institutions and civil society organizations and shall continue until May 18 in Isa Cultural Center with a speech by His Excellency Mr. Fareed Ghazi, NIHR's Commissioner, and the Chairperson of the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural rights in the National Institution for Human Rights, deputizing  for His Excellency the NIHR's Chairperson Dr. Abdul Aziz Abul,  in which he welcomed the delegation of the National Human Rights Committee of Qatar headed by His Excellency Mrs. Maryam Bint Abdullah Al-Attiyah, Secretary-General of the Committee. He stated that the aim of this joint event is to develop the participants' skills and abilities on dealing with human rights issues in accordance with the regional, national and international best practices to ensure the promotion and protection of human rights in different areas.

Moreover, Mr. Farid Ghazi extended sincere thanks and gratitude to the Isa Cultural center chaired by His Excellency Dr Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Isa Cultural Centre and its Executive Director Dr. Shaikh Khalid bin Khalifa Al Khalifa for hosting the event in this national monument.

For her part, HE Mrs. Maryam Bint Abdullah Al-Attiyah Secretary-General of the National Human Rights Committee of Qatar, gave a speech during the opening session in which she thanked the National Institution for Human Rights, headed by His Excellency Dr. Abdul Aziz Hassan Abul, Chairperson of the Institution for the good hospitality and organization of this event as well as the keenness of the organizers and their dedication to maintain bridges of cooperation and constructive partnership between the two sides, stressing that human rights and fundamental freedoms have become one of the main topics on all international, regional and national levels, and that the rule of law and institution-based Sate are the focal pivotal factor in human rights issues that must be the cornerstone and the foundation on which to build and rely on, requiring the establishment of national human rights institutions that can contribute and have an active and effective role in establishing the foundations of democracy and the rule of
law. This will not be possible, in turn, except by building capacities and upgrading the level of workers in all specialties.

At the end of the speech, HE Mrs. Maryam Bint Abdullah Al-Attiyah, expressed her great gratitude to the Kingdom of Bahrain for the warm reception and generous hospitality and for their excellent organization of the event, and wished everyone success and progress.

The joint session began on its first day by discussing the historical development of human rights, nurture, concepts, terminology and the international human rights system and its contractual mechanisms and fundamental agreements, in addition to the experience of the Kingdom of Bahrain in combating  human trafficking. On second day, the sessions dealt with the United Nations human rights system (non-contractual mechanisms), the international system for the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities, as well as international and regional human rights mechanisms. The third day dealt with the role of national institutions and non-governmental organizations in the field of human rights, in addition to the introduction to the international human rights law, concepts, aspects of difference and similarity.
