NIHR Statement on the Royal Directives Pertaining to the Renewal of Passports for Bahrainis Whose Kuwaiti Citizenship Has Been Revoked

17 Sep 2025

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) expresses its deep appreciation for the noble Royal Directives issued by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of the Kingdom of Bahrain, pertaining the renewal of passports for all Bahraini citizens whose Kuwaiti citizenship was recently revoked, thereby ensuring their freedom of movement and travel.

NIHR affirms that these directives embody His Majesty the King’s steadfast approach in safeguarding and promoting human rights, and reflect the Kingdom of Bahrain’s commitment to upholding human rights, particularly the right of every individual to nationality and freedom of movement—both of which are fundamental rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

This humanitarian initiative also demonstrates His Majesty’s keenness to reunite families and preserve their cohesion and familial bonds, in harmony with national constitutional principles, while reinforcing Bahrain’s leading position in respecting and protecting public rights and freedoms, and at the same time affirming the values of tolerance, justice, and equality embedded in these noble Royal initiatives.
