NIHR Monitors the News of Student Injury and a Request for Transferring a Prisoner

The National Institution for Human Right followed up the new circulated  in the local mass media regarding the injury of a student in a Government school with a broken front tooth because a teacher has hit his head in a chair in the classroom. The NIHR reviewed the Ministry of Education's follow-up and clarification regarding the incident and that it took the necessary measures and opened an investigation into the matter with the teacher involved.

The Institution will follow up the issue with authorities concerned to ensure safeguarding  the  rights of the student after the conclusion of the investigation; especially that the employees in the field of education should be role model. The NIHR stresses the importance of the right to education guaranteed by the Constitution, national legislations and international conventions.

Furthermore, the NIHR monitored the news of an inmate in the Correction & Rehabilitation Center in Jaw Prison, who according to a local newspaper stated that he was a prisoner in a ward for smokers and that the doctor advised him not to be in smoking places, requesting  transferring him to another ward considering his health condition. The NIHR communicated through Ms. Maria Khouri, Chairperson of Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up Committee, with Management of Jaw Prison, which has engaged positively with the  request. Currently, they are in process of finding a suitable solution in line with the regulatory procedures that guarantee his rights as an inmate in the Correction & Rehabilitation Center.
