NIHR Council of Commissioners holds a meeting with the Human Rights Committee at Shura Council

HE Dr. Abdul-Aziz Hassan Abul Chairperson of the National Institution for Human Rights met a delegation from the Human Rights Committee in Shura Council which headed by Council Member Mr. Ahmed Mahdi Al Hadad. HE NIHR Chairperson briefed the Shura Council delegation on the activity and role played by the NIHR in enhancing and protecting human rights as stipulated in Law No. (26) of 2014 on establishing the National Institution for Human Rights.  HE touched on the proposals for amending some national legislations submitted by the Institution so that they comply with the international obligations of the Kingdom of Bahrain with regard to human rights and the importance of highlighting compliance with such obligations on the part of the Kingdom; especially in respect of the reports related to the convention bodies, Universal Periodic Review (UPR) and Human Rights Council special rapporteurs' reports.

 

 

On his part, HE Chairman of Shura Council's Human Rights Committee stressed the importance of activating the cooperation and coordination agreement between and the NIHR and to utilize it in enhancing  the concepts of human rights and increasing awareness among the citizens, official entities and civil society institutions,  which shall have a positive impact on the actual practices of such entities.   

 

Additionally , HE Chairman of Shura Council's Human Rights Committee stressed that the NIHR contributes to the Kingdom's continued endeavors toward establishing further widely –established human rights achievements visible to all in order to enhance the position of Kingdom of Bahrain at the Gulf level, regionally and internationally in this field and to support the continued establishment of human rights values at different levels within the framework of  the Constitution and National Action Charter. He highlighted the Institution's concern with working in accordance with international standards, the most prominent thereof are the Paris Principles,  in dealing with the various aspects in the field of human rights.

 

The meeting was attended by HE Mr. Abdullah Al Derazi, NIHR's Vice-Chairperson and some members of the NIHR Council of Commissioners.
