NIHR Commissioners meet with Shura Council’s Human Rights Committee
HE Dr. Abdulaziz Hassan Abul, Chairman of NIHR, received Shura Council’s Human Rights Committee delegation led by HE Mr. Ahmed Mehdi Al Haddad. His Excellency the Chairman presented the background of NIHR and its role in the promotion and protection of human rights, which was established through a royal decree under Law No. (26) for the year 2014. In addition, he touched upon his happiness towards the proposed amendments to the number of national legislations that have been made by the institution to comply with international obligations of the Kingdom of Bahrain related to human rights, especially in the reports of international treaties, UPR and the human rights Councils.
From his side, His Excellency the Chairman of the Shura Human Rights Committee expressed the importance of activating the collaboration between the Shura Council and NIHR to promote human rights concepts and raise awareness among citizens, official bodies and civil society institutions.
On the other side, HE Chairman of NIHR hailed the continuing efforts of the Kingdom in contributing to these achievements through various mechanisms such as the National Action Charter and the Constitution thus elevating Bahrain’s position regionally and internationally with regards to human rights.
