Alshaer: Establishment of Trafficking in Persons Prosecution Office reflects Bahrain’s Progress in the Area of Human Rights

Mr. Khaled Alshaer, Vice-Chairperson of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), commended the resolution of His Excellency the Attorney General Dr. Ali bin Fadel Al Buainain to establish a Trafficking-in-Persons Prosecution Office, stating that such a step constitutes an important addition to the judicial and legal system in the Kingdom of Bahrain and expresses the steady progress that the State of institutions and law is experiencing under the leadership of the King of the country.

Alshaer pointed out that the solid institutional structure that the Kingdom of Bahrain has established for the human rights system is progressing and escalating, as the step of establishing a prosecution for trafficking in persons is an affirmation of Bahrain's high commitment to respecting human rights and keenness to develop the best systems to combat all types of crimes against human dignity.

The Vice-Chairperson stated that Bahrain has become a distinguished role model in the world in the area of combating trafficking in persons, which caused it to deserve to maintain its advanced position in the first category in the reports of the US State Department concerned with the classification of countries in the area of combating trafficking in persons for several years, stressing that Bahrain’s leading position through its solid institutional and organizational frameworks reflects the great interest and unlimited support for human rights given by His Majesty the King, may God protect him, and the dedication of all national efforts for this purpose, praising the remarkable role that the competent state institutions play in this area.

Alshaer praised the efforts of the Ministry of Interior, led by Lieutenant-General Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, in setting up a pioneering security system, preparing qualified cadres to enforce the laws criminalizing trafficking in persons, and safeguarding rights in accordance with humanitarian principles that comply with international principles and covenants.
