Regional Tribute to NIHR’s Role in the Protection of Expatriate Workers

Mr. Nazeer Al-Islam, member of the Bangladesh Human Rights Commission (BHRC), and Dr. Amal bint Mohamed bin Abdullah Al-Hashmi, member of the Oman Human Rights Commission (OHRC), reviewed the mechanism of action in the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) branch concerned with the provision of legal assistance to expatriate and domestic workers and their families, located in “LMRA Shelter and Expatriate Services Unit” in Northern Sehla, where Dr. Hameed Hussein, Head of the NIHR’s Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, presented a summary of the NIHR’s efforts for the protection and awareness of expatriate workers and overcoming the obstacles and difficulties they may face during their stay and work in the Kingdom of Bahrain, as part of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals for the stability of the labor market, while noting the permanent cooperation of the Labor Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) in the process of preserving the rights of all labor parties.

For his part, Mr. Nazeer Al-Islam praised the efforts made by the NIHR in cooperation with the LMRA to overcome the procedural difficulties faced by expatriate workers, expressing his appreciation for this great interest in providing all means of human rights support to them through the provision of a specialized office in this regard.

For her part, Dr. Amal Al-Hashmi, member of the Oman Human Rights Commission (OHRC), commended the NIHR’s experience in the establishment of a special office to provide legal assistance to expatriate workers, which confirms the keenness of the wise leadership in the Kingdom of Bahrain to protect the rights of expatriate and domestic workers and their families.
