NIHR Receives Regional Director for Arab States at the UN Development Coordination Office

Eng. Ali Ahmed Al-Derazi, Chairperson of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), received Mrs. Laila Bakr, the Regional Director for Arab States at the UN Development Coordination Office, at the NIHR headquarters in Seef district.

Al-Derazi welcomed Mrs. Bakr and gave her an overview of the NIHR’s work, objectives and competencies stipulates in its Establishment Law, explaining the role entrusted to it in dealing with human rights issues in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed means of coordination and joint cooperation, especially with regard to technical cooperation in training and exchange of expertise.

For her part, Bakr congratulated Al-Derazi on his election as Chairman of the NIHR Council of Commissioners, wishing him continued success in his duties, stating the NIHR’s important role in promoting and spreading a culture of human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Malallah Al-Hammadi, member of the NIHR Council of Commissioners, Counselor-at-Law Yasser Ghanim Shaheen, NIHR’s Secretary-General, Mr. Mohammed Al-Zarqani, Acting Resident Coordinator of UN Activities in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and Mrs. Asmara Ajkar, Head of the UN Resident Coordinator Office.
