Statement by the Chairperson of the NIHR on the Occasion of the International Day of Peace

21 Sep 2025

Eng. Ali Ahmed Alderazi, Chairperson of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), praised the humanitarian role undertaken by the Kingdom of Bahrain under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, in consolidating human values and promoting the spirit of fraternity and cooperation among peoples, thereby enhancing Bahrain’s position as a pioneering model of coexistence, harmony, and peace.

He highlighted the Kingdom’s strong commitment to supporting peacekeeping efforts regionally and internationally, driven by its steadfast dedication to fostering a culture of tolerance, coexistence, and respect for human rights. He noted Bahrain’s keenness to adopt balanced policies that contribute to conflict prevention and the strengthening of security, through active cooperation with the United Nations and relevant international institutions, as well as by promoting community stability through support for humanitarian and development initiatives in conflict areas, providing relief assistance, and engaging in international dialogue on peace and security.

This came on the occasion of the International Day of Peace, observed on September 21, which this year coincides with the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission. The Commission plays a pivotal role in intensifying UN efforts to address the root causes of violence—such as poverty, discrimination, and injustice—which are among the most significant factors threatening the stability of societies and undermining prospects for sustainable peace.

Alderazi also reaffirmed the NIHR’s unwavering commitment to supporting peace efforts by entrenching a culture of human rights, reinforcing the principles of tolerance, and rejecting violence as key foundations for achieving stability and sustainable peace. He further highlighted the NIHR’s role in monitoring and preventing any practices that fuel hate speech, discrimination, or incitement, in line with its responsibility to promote societal awareness of the values of coexistence and mutual respect.
