NIHR holds its Final Preparatory Meeting for Participants in National Observation of Electoral Process

The interim committee for observing parliamentary and municipal elections 2018 held its final preparatory meeting today for the participants in the national observation of electoral process, under the chairpersonship of Dr. Bader Mohamed Adel and membership of Dr. Khalifa bin Ali Al Fadhel, NIHR’s Secretary General.

The head of the committee reviewed the mechanism of action and scope of observers during their presence in the polling and counting stations, to ensure smooth and easy procedures for voters, according to the monitoring form of parliamentary and municipal elections prepared by the NIHR.

For his part, Dr. Al Fadhel noted the wide interest in the elections, stressing the NIHR’s role in instilling the principles of transparency and integrity by observing independence and impartiality of the elections, monitoring the course of electoral processes through field presence in the polling centers and supplying the interim committee with all the data and notes related to the course of electoral process.

The NIHR’s participation in the observation of parliamentary and municipal elections is based upon its capacity as an independent body under its Incorporation Law, which complies with the Paris Principles governing the work of national human rights institutions around the world, being accredited by the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI).  The NIHR also has various experiences in the area of the observation of elections, as it participated in observing legislative elections in a number of States.
