NIHR Receives Delegation of the European Parliament’s Delegation for Relations with the Arab Peninsula
The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) received a delegation from the European Parliament’s Delegation for Relations with the Arab Peninsula, headed by H.E. Mr. Reinhold Lopatka, on the occasion of the delegation’s current visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The delegation was received by Dr. Maha Al-Shehab, Child Rights Commissioner, in the presence of a number of members of NIHR’s Council of Commissioners. Dr. Al-Shehab welcomed the delegation and highlighted the importance of the visit in strengthening communication and dialogue and facilitating the exchange of expertise on issues of mutual interest in the field of human rights.
During the meeting, Dr. Al-Shehab outlined NIHR’s role and mandate in the protection and promotion of human rights, as well as its efforts to monitor the human rights situation, receive complaints, provide legal assistance, and conduct field visits, in addition to its awareness-raising and training programs and activities.
The meeting also addressed NIHR’s working mechanisms in accordance with its establishing law and the Paris Principles, as well as its cooperation with relevant national and international entities. The two sides also discussed a number of human rights issues of mutual interest and ways to strengthen cooperation and exchange expertise and practices in this field.
