NIHR’s Chairperson meets with Member of the British House of Lords

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Chairperson Mr. Saeed bin Mohamed Al-Faihani, met with Baroness Patricia Morris, Member of the British House of Lords and Chairman of the Middle East Council of the British Conservative Party, where His Excellency affirmed that this meeting comes within the framework of cooperation and communication with the governments and legislative authorities in the friendly countries and international bodies.  He pointed out that the NIHR is always looking forward to the development of this cooperation as well as the exchange of expertise and benefiting from them in enhancing its steps and achievements in the human rights area.

His Excellency also gave a brief about the history of the establishment of the NIHR and its role in dealing with the human rights issue, stressing that the human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain is safeguarded at all levels by the establishment of the NIHR, in the belief of the wise leadership of human dignity, and that the purpose of its establishment was to promote and protect those rights in accordance with the international standards.

His Excellency also referred to the latest developments on the severing of diplomatic relations between a number of Arab countries, including the Kingdom of Bahrain, and the State of Qatar.  He pointed out that the procedures of severing diplomatic relations did not result in any violations of rights, whether for citizens or residents of the Kingdom, and that it is regrettable that Qatar has turned the issue into an issue of human rights in an exaggerated and contrary manner to appeal international reactions.  He also stressed that the measures of severing diplomatic relations were meant to protect national security from the policies pursued by Qatar as a result of its failure to comply with the Riyadh Agreement on the cessation of the support and financing of terrorism.
