NIHR Receives a Delegation from the General Secretariat of the GCC
The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) received a delegation from the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) during an official visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain.
During the meeting, the delegation was briefed on the NIHR’s mandate and areas of competence, as well as its working mechanisms in the protection and promotion of human rights. The briefing also covered the Institution’s role in receiving complaints and monitoring the state of rights and freedoms, in addition to its efforts to raise awareness and promote education in the field of human rights in cooperation with official bodies and civil society institutions, with particular focus on the promotion and protection of children’s rights.
The meeting also discussed ways to enhance cooperation and exchange experiences between the two sides and to strengthen joint coordination on issues of common Gulf interest, in support of efforts aimed at consolidating human rights principles across GCC countries.
For their part, members of the delegation highlighted key achievements in strengthening joint Gulf action on human rights issues, as well as the initiatives and projects implemented under the General Secretariat’s plans to support and enhance the role of human rights institutions in GCC countries.
