NIHR Participates in the Annual Conference of Asia-Pacific Forum for National Human Rights Institutions in India

Eng. Ali Ahmed Al-Derazi, Chairman of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), and Chancellor Yasser Shahin, NIHR Secretary-General, have participated in the opening of the annual conference of the Asia-Pacific Forum (APF) for National Human Rights Institutions, which was held in the Indian capital, Delhi, and organised by the National Human Rights Commission of India under the patronage of His Excellency Mrs. Durbadi Moro, President of the Republic of India, who opened the conference with a word of thanks to the representatives of national institutions in the Asia-Pacific region for their attendance and participation in this forum, which is held every two years.

Judge Arun Mishra, Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission of India, Mr. Do Wan Song, Chairman of the APF, Ms. Amna Bouayache, Deputy Head of the Office of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI), and Mr. Vladlen Stefanov, Head of the Department of National Institutions and Local Mechanisms at the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, gave speeches in which they welcomed the participants and presented a summary of their work and the role of their bodies in promoting human rights.  Representatives of a number of official bodies, judicial authorities, and a number of representatives of embassies accredited to the Republic of India participated in the opening session.

The NIHR delegation participated in the 28th annual meeting of the APF, to review the APF performance report June 2022-June 2023 and the report in gender objectives in national institutions, and to adopt the financial report and approve the accreditation classification of the APF members during this year.  At the end of the meeting, a member was elected in the APF Governance Council.

The NIHR delegation also participated in the APF dialogue with civil society organisations, which was held on the sidelines of the annual conference, which aimed to discuss ways to activate cooperation, the mechanism of future work, the challenges facing human rights work, and the proposed solutions.
