Chairperson of the NIHR meets with Officials of the OHCHR in Geneva

Ms. Maria Khouri, Chairperson of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), met with Mr. Mohamed Al-Nesour, Director of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Department at the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Geneva, where she briefed him on the latest developments and events recently carried out by the NIHR, including the updating of the e-system for receiving complaints and providing legal assistance, the daily monitoring of the media and social media and the recently launched free hotline (80001144) to receive calls.  The two sides also dealt with the joint cooperation in order to raise the goals and competences of the NIHR aimed at protecting and promoting human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain.  The meeting was attended by Chancellor Mr. Yasser Shahin, NIHR’s Assistant Secretary-General.

Ms. Khouri also met with Mrs. Sisi Shahidzadeh, Human Rights Officer of the OHCHR’s National Institutions, Local Mechanisms and Civil Society Section, which serves as a Secretariat to the Sub-Committee on Accreditation (SCA), where the two sides exchanged views on the mechanisms of future cooperation and what the NIHR can do to continue its functions pursuant to the Paris Principles organizing the action of the national institutions, as well as aspects of cooperation to develop a vision of the NIHR’s strategy and action plan for the next four years and the provision of support and assistance in all areas aimed at the promotion and protection of human rights, which fall within the system of capacity development of the national institutions and helping them to advance the implementation of their competences, in which the OHCHR cooperates with the Asia-Pacific Forum (APF) to which the NIHR is an affiliate.
