NIHR organizes Field Visits on the Occasion of International Day of Families

In conjunction with the International Day of Families adopted by the UN General Assembly, the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) organized two visits to children’s wing at King Hamad University Hospital and Abdullah Kano Pediatric Oncology Unit at Salmaniya Medical Complex.  The visits were made by NIHR’s Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Affairs, represented by its Head Ms. Maria Khouri and its members Dr. Aisha Mubarak and Dr. Hamid Hussein.

The Committee’s Head pointed out the importance of acquiring human rights skills in support of Sustainable Development Goals, which can only be achieved through a number of ways, basically education, sustainable livelihood, dissemination of human rights culture, promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence and appreciation of cultural variance.

For her part, Dr. Aisha Mubarak stressed that the Bahraini constitution is concerned with the family entity, stipulating that the family is the core of society, founded on religion, morality and patriotism, and that the law is keen to preserve its legitimate entity and strengthen its ties and values.  Dr. Hamid Hussein added that the NIHR’s visit came to raise awareness of the issues related to family solidarity and increase of knowledge of the social, economic and demographic processes affecting it.

This year’s theme highlights the importance of caring for children in the family and educating parents to serve the well-being of children by urging them to focus on wise practices to maintain a balance between work and family, and to help them to fulfill their responsibilities to the fullest.
