NIHR and the Bahrain Journalists Association Discuss Enhancement of Joint Cooperation

Eng. Ali Ahmed Al-Dirazi, Chairman of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), has received Mr. Isa Al-Shaiji, Chairman of Bahrain Journalists Association (BJA), Mr. Abdulrahman Al-Medfa, Deputy Chairman of BJA, Mr. Rashid Al-Hamer, BJA Secretary-General and International Relations Director, and Mrs. Zahra Habib, Head of BJA Committee on Press Freedom, in the presence of a number of members of the NIHR Board of Commissioners.

At the beginning of the meeting, Al-Dirazi welcomed the Chairman and members of the BJA, noting the efforts of the BJA in developing the press and media work in the Kingdom of Bahrain, which receives care and attention from His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the king of the country, and the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Prime Minister, appreciating the role played by the BJA with regard to strengthening the role of the national press and its free responsible speech in order to achieve the common aspirations.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to enhance and document cooperation between the NIHR and BJA, with a focus on defining the necessary measures to organise joint cooperation in an effective and close way, in addition to discussing the joint efforts and topics that each party seeks to implement and benefit from, which aim to enhance efficiency and develop media skills for national staff regarding the culture of human rights, which will enable it to achieve its noble mission in serving the country and the citizen better.

The two parties also touched on the possibility of cooperation regarding human rights monitoring and basic freedoms due to its importance in the journalistic work.

For his part, Mr. Isa Al-Shaiji, BJA Chairman, on behalf of himself and the members of the BJA sincere thanks and appreciation to the Head and members of the NIHR Board of Commissioners, for the national role they play in illustrating the true image of the legal status in the Kingdom of Bahrain, stressing the NIHR's support for everything that would support the development of the human rights system in the Kingdom.
