National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) Meets a British Delegation from ARC

Within the framework of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s cooperation with international institutions working in the field of human rights, the NIHR’s Vice chairperson Mr. Abdullah Al-Derazi met at the NIHR headquarters in Seef District a number of experts in the British institution ARC, headed by Mr. Bin Mathews, Head of Programs Department in the British Embassy.
At the beginning of the meeting, the NIHR’s Vice chairperson welcomed the delegation and made a detailed presentation on the NIHR’s work, aims and terms of reference as contained in its articles of association, as well as the role undertaken by it in disseminating and enhancing human rights culture through courses, seminars and workshops periodically held by it both internally and externally.
During the meeting, attendants discussed aspects of mutual cooperation and coordination between NIHR and ARC, as the visiting delegation emphasized the importance of the NIHR’s role in the region, and that the enhancement of cooperation between both side shall enable it to play an important and major role regarding human rights issues and the enhancement of human rights culture through exchange of expertise and provision of consultancy and training programs.

It is worth mentioning that ARC is an advisory British organization that works in the field of research, conflict resolution, security, justice, human rights and building institutions, media and civil community in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), through building partnerships with stakeholders in local communities, in order to provide an explanatory vision on situations and prepare programs to provide assistance for the development and implementation of solutions in reality.

The delegation’s visit program included a tour of NIHR’s building halls, including the training center, NIHR’s library and complaints receiving office.  The meeting was attended by NIHR’s Acting Secretary-General Counselor-at-Law, Mr. Yasser Shaheen, Information and Communication Technology Director, Mr. Fahad Al Mu’alla and Director of Training and Education Mr. Ali Al-Bahar.
