NIHR participates in the 10th Meeting of the Eurasian Alliance of Ombudsmen in Moscow
The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) participated in the 10th Meeting of the Eurasian Alliance of Ombudsmen and National Human Rights Institutions, held over two consecutive days in Moscow, the capital of the Russian Federation, under the auspices of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation.
The meeting was inaugurated by Professor Tatyana Moskalkova, High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation, who delivered a welcoming address to the delegations and discussed with them best practices related to the protection of human rights in the context of the digital transformation of society.
Ms. Rawda Alaradi, Member of the Council of Commissioners, presented a working paper titled “Exchange of Best Practices in Protecting the Rights of Residents”, in which she highlighted the Institution’s efforts to align national policies with the Sustainable Development Goals and to strengthen the protection of all segments of society, affirming that Bahrain’s human rights approach encompasses all residents.
The paper also showcased the Institution’s key initiatives, which include field monitoring through announced and unannounced visits to assess residents’ needs; preparing reports and recommendations to address shortcomings in essential services; conducting awareness campaigns on human rights and legal aid mechanisms; cooperating with civil society organizations to enhance joint efforts; and communicating in multiple languages to ensure information accessibility for everyone. Additionally, it emphasized the Institution’s commitment to aligning national legislation with international human rights standards.
It is worth noting that NIHR is a member of the Eurasian Alliance and is the first Arab institution to join this alliance, which serves as an important platform for dialogue, cooperation, and the exchange of experiences among ombudsman offices and national institutions dedicated to the protection and promotion of human rights. The Alliance includes national human rights institutions from several countries around the world.
