NIHR Receives Ambassador of Netherlands

Eng. Ali Ahmed Al-Derazi, Chairman of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), has received HE Mr. Lawrence Westhoff, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Kingdom of Bahrain, residing in Kuwait, in the presence of Mrs. Simon Landhaus, Deputy Ambassador, at the NIHR headquarters in Seef district.

During the meeting, Al-Derazi presented an overview of the NIHR and its role in protecting and promoting human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain, in accordance with its Establishment Law and the competencies entrusted to it, reviewing its major recent achievements, and the declared and undeclared visits made by the members of the Board of Directors to the correction and rehabilitation centres on a periodic basis, in addition to the training programs held by the NIHR to promote awareness of human rights.

The meeting also addressed the Law on Alternative Sanctions and Measures, and the mechanism for its effective implementation by providing appropriate rehabilitation programmes for the convicts, reviewing at the same time the outcomes of the International Conference on Alternative Sanctions recently organised by the NIHR.

For his part, Mr. Westhoff expressed his appreciation for the humanitarian role played by the NIHR, looking forward to promoting means of cooperation between the two sides in a way that supports and achieves common development goals, wishing the Kingdom of Bahrain and its people further progress and prosperity.
