NIHR participates in the regular meeting of the National Committee to Combat Trafficking in Persons
The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), represented by Dr. Hamad Al Abdullah, Member of the Council of Commissioners, participated in the regular meeting of the National Committee to Combat Trafficking in Persons, chaired by Mr. Nibras Talib, Chief Executive Officer of the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) and Chairman of the Committee.
During the meeting, Mr. Nibras Talib reviewed the achievements of the Kingdom of Bahrain in combating trafficking in persons, most notably the Kingdom’s retention of Tier 1 status in the U.S. Department of State’s Trafficking in Persons Report for the eighth consecutive year, as well as the Anti-Trafficking Prosecution Office’s receipt of the Excellence Award from the International Association of Prosecutors, in recognition of its prominent role in strengthening the justice system and ensuring fairness for victims.
Mr. Talib emphasized that these accomplishments serve as both motivation and responsibility to redouble efforts toward enhancing and stabilizing the work environment. He commended the government entities for their dedicated work within an integrated institutional framework that supports protection, prevention, and judicial prosecution mechanisms.
The Chief Executive of the LMRA also highlighted key initiatives undertaken by the Authority to improve the work environment and promote awareness of best practices. These include launching the enhanced version of the Wage Protection System, which prioritizes safeguarding the rights of national workers and ensuring their stability in a fair and safe work environment. In addition, he noted the signing of Phase II of the cooperation agreement with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to support the programs of the Regional Training Center for Combating Trafficking in Persons (2025–2028), which aims to bolster Bahrain’s national efforts and benefit from international expertise and best practices in this field.
The Committee also reviewed the outcomes of national efforts to detect cases of trafficking in persons and the measures taken to ensure justice and fairness for all parties in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. Participants reaffirmed the importance of continuing joint efforts to combat illegal practices in the labor market, thereby strengthening the Kingdom of Bahrain’s leading regional and international position in combating trafficking in persons.
