NIHR receives a delegation of the French Senate

Mr. Abdullah Al-Derazi, Vice Chairperson of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), received a delegation from the French Senate, headed by Senator Jean-Marie Boucle, who is currently visiting the country to learn about the Kingdom of Bahrain and its achievements in various fields, in the presence of Dr. Hameed Hussein, member of NIHR’s Board of Commissioners, and Mr. Fahad Al-Mualla, Director of Resources and Services.

At the beginning of the meeting, NIHR’s Vice Chairperson welcomed the visiting delegation and stressed the continuous development of Bahraini-French relations in all fields, praising the French role and progress in the human rights area.

NIHR’s Vice Chairperson presented a brief overview of the establishment and development of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) since 2009 till now, as well as its role in education and training on human rights, the training programs it provides for university students, law enforcement personnel, judges and the public, and its advisory opinions to the executive, legislative and judicial authorities.

The NIHR’s Vice Chairperson also discussed the developments in the human rights situation in the Kingdom of Bahrain, stressing the wise leadership’s commitment to achieve a balance between stability and reform in a manner that respects universal principles and values of human rights, especially freedom of opinion, expression and religious tolerance, through the King of Bahrain’s support for human rights institutions, including the NIHR, for His Majesty’s belief in human dignity.

For their part, the French delegation praised the role adopted by the NIHR in the promotion and protection of human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and expressed their admiration for the development achieved by it.  The meeting was attended by Mrs. Hala Ramzi Fayez, member of the Shura Council, and Senators Claude Karen and Sylvie Couchfant.
