The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), represented by Mr. Daniel Haroun, Member of the Council of Commissioners, participated in the Third Bahrain–European Conference on Freedom of Religion and Belief, held in the Belgian capital, Brussels, under the theme “Practical Implementation for Promoting Coexistence.” The event was organized by the King Hamad Global Centre for Peaceful Coexistence, in cooperation with the European Union, with broad participation from parliamentary, diplomatic, academic, and religious figures from various countries around the world.

The two-day conference program included a series of specialized panel discussions addressing multiple themes related to promoting freedom of religion and belief. Among them were sessions titled “Protecting Freedom of Religion or Belief: A Toolkit for a Diverse World,” “Education, Awareness, and Cultural Diplomacy,” and “Combating Hate Speech and Hate Crimes.” The closing session, “Freedom of Religion and Belief, Coexistence, and Tolerance in the European Union, the Gulf Region, and Beyond,” reviewed comparative experiences and best practices in advancing the values of tolerance and mutual understanding among peoples. Participants emphasized that cross-border international cooperation is a fundamental pillar for building a future based on peace and mutual respect.

The conference was held in line with the enlightened vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of the Kingdom of Bahrain, may God protect him, and in accordance with the directives of the government led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, may God protect him. It also reflects the depth of the Bahrain–European partnership in promoting the values of pluralism and human coexistence, and in fostering a culture of peace, tolerance, and interfaith and intercultural dialogue.
