A Delegation from NIHR Visits the Pretrial Detention Center and the Juvenile Facility
A delegation from the Council of Commissioners of the National Institution for Human Rights visited the Pretrial Detention Center in Dry Dock and the facility for convicted juveniles located in the Al-Hidd area.
During the visit, the delegation was briefed on the living conditions of the inmates and their accommodation circumstances. The delegation also met with a number of detainees and convicted juveniles in several buildings, listened to their requests, and recorded their observations in preparation for developing appropriate recommendations to be submitted to the competent authorities.
This announced visit comes as part of the oversight and human rights role undertaken by the National Institution for Human Rights to ensure that all inmates of correction and rehabilitation centers enjoy their rights guaranteed under the laws, regulations, and procedures in force, in accordance with relevant international human rights standards, and based on the broad powers granted to the Institution under its establishing law.
