NIHR Participates in a Training Programme on involving National Human Rights Institutions in the 4th Session of the Universal Periodic Review

The Secretariat-General of the National institution for Human Rights (NIHR) has participated in a training programme entitled “Involvement of National Human Rights Institutions in the 4th Session of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of the United Nations Human Rights Council”, which was organized remotely by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions ( GANHRI), with the participation of a number of specialists and experts in the field of human rights and relevant authorities.

During the programme’s sessions, a number of themes related to the 4th phase of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) session, which will start next November, were discussed, in addition to the role of national human rights institutions in submitting parallel reports, interaction with the outcomes and recommendations of the previous review, and the most important initiatives undertaken by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights during the past years to enhance the role of national human rights institutions in the various stages of the review process. At the end of the programme, experiences of a number of national human rights institutions in this field were discussed.
