29 Jun 2026

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), represented by Dr. Maha Saleh Al Shahab, Child Rights Commissioner, participated in the opening session of the BISMUN III Conference organised by Britus International School, with the participation of secondary and university students from within and outside the Kingdom of Bahrain.

In her remarks, Dr. Al Shahab emphasised the importance of partnership between national institutions and educational institutions in promoting a culture of human rights and children's rights, and in empowering young people to express their views and engage in discussions on humanitarian and international issues. She also highlighted the Institution's efforts in promoting children's rights, including the "Friends of the Child Rights Commissioner" initiative, commending the participation of a number of students from Britus International School in the initiative.

She noted that Model United Nations conferences provide an educational platform that contributes to developing young people's skills in dialogue, critical thinking, and leadership, while promoting the values of participation, responsibility, and mutual respect.

The conference targets secondary and university students from within and outside the Kingdom of Bahrain and focuses on discussing humanitarian and international issues through the simulation of the Model United Nations (MUN), thereby contributing to the development of leadership, dialogue, negotiation, and teamwork skills among young people. The conference also includes several specialised councils, including one affiliated with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), which focuses on children's rights issues and ways to strengthen their protection.
