29 May 2025

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), represented by its Chairperson, Eng. Ali Ahmed Alderazi, took part in the conference titled “Artificial Intelligence and Human Rights: Opportunities, Risks, and Visions for a Better Future”, held in Qatar. The event was organized by the National Human Rights Committee in Qatar, in cooperation with several local and international entities, including the National Cybersecurity Agency, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). The conference saw the participation of over 800 experts and officials from around the world.

Conference participants stressed the importance of enacting binding national and international legislation to ensure the safe and responsible use of artificial intelligence technologies. Such laws should prevent AI from becoming a tool for violating privacy, promoting discrimination, or undermining fundamental rights and freedoms.

Several speakers also emphasized the need to address the existing legislative gaps surrounding AI applications globally. They called for the adoption of a clear international legal framework that balances the advantages of this advanced technology with the need to limit its potential risks to social, economic, and human rights domains.
