02 Jun 2025

As part of its oversight role in promoting and protecting human rights, the Detention & Facilities Visitation Committee at the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) conducted an inspection visit to the King Fahad Causeway Police Directorate. The purpose of the visit was to assess the extent to which detainees are enjoying the rights guaranteed to them under national laws and relevant international standards.

During the visit, the committee toured the various departments of the directorate and received a briefing from officials on the measures in place to safeguard the rights and obligations of pretrial detainees, as well as the key procedures followed in this regard.

The committee also carried out a field inspection that included detention rooms, facilities, and services provided, with the aim of evaluating their compliance with human rights standards. The visit focused on ensuring the availability of fundamental guarantees for detainees, including the conditions of detention, healthcare services, and related administrative procedures.

This visit is part of a series of routine inspections conducted by the NIHR to monitor the human rights situation in places of detention, in line with international best practices.
