Statement by NIHR’s Chairperson on the Occasion of the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons

On the World Day against Trafficking in Persons, Eng. Ali Ahmed Alderazi, Chairperson of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), affirmed that the Institution closely monitors the efforts undertaken by the Kingdom of Bahrain in combating trafficking in persons, in line with its independent mandate to observe, evaluate, and promote the protection of human rights.
Alderazi noted that the NIHR continuously monitors the policies and practices adopted in this area, including legislative and institutional measures issued by official authorities. He emphasized that the Kingdom has maintained its Tier 1 ranking in the U.S. Department of State’s Trafficking in Persons Report for several consecutive years, reflecting the ongoing nature of its efforts and commitment to combating trafficking in persons.
He further explained that the NIHR, through its official mandate, follows up on relevant developments and submits observations and recommendations to the concerned authorities, thereby contributing to the reinforcement of national efforts and the achievement of a balance between human security requirements and the preservation of human dignity and individual rights.
Alderazi also stressed the importance of expanding cooperation with specialized international and regional organizations, exchanging expertise, and adopting best practices to combat this transnational crime. He reaffirmed the NIHR’s commitment to continuing its role in supporting and monitoring efforts aimed at addressing the phenomenon of trafficking in persons, through mechanisms of oversight, evaluation, awareness, and institutional partnerships with recognized international organizations in this field.
