Dr. Al-Fadel: The Supreme Council for Women in an Essential Element in the Sustainable Development Process

Dr. Khalifa Al-Fadel, Secretary-General of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), praised the fruitful efforts of the Supreme Council for Women under the leadership of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, the wife of the King of Bahrain, which took responsibility for the political and economic empowerment of Bahraini women, which is a national responsibility that the Council has done well, contributing to the expansion of the participation of women in the Bahraini society through a range of political, economic, social and cultural programs, which the Council considers as a key element in the sustainable development process.

In line with the Council’s efforts and attempts to empower Bahraini women and integrate them into comprehensive development programs and to achieve the principles of equality and non-discrimination, Dr. Al-Fadel stated that General Secretariat of the NIHR has worked to empower women to obtain decent work by adopting a policy that promotes gender equality and the empowerment of women at all levels, explaining that 58% of the total staff of the Secretariat are women.

In line with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of 2030 adopted by the United Nations in 2016, and in particular the 5th Goal to achieve gender equality and empowering all women and girls, Dr. Al-Fadel stressed that the NIHR works to enhance the status of women and raise their productivity level through engaging them in the training courses, improving their performance, reviewing all the regulations and decisions of the NIHR to ensure their rights, ensuring their full and effective participation and providing them with equal opportunities for leadership with men at all levels of decision-making.
