In a concerted effort to foster cooperation and enhance coordination in the realm of human rights, the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) and the Bahraini Journalists Association signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at the NIHR headquarters.

The MoU was signed by Eng. Ali Ahmed Alderazi, the Chairperson of NIHR, and Mr. Issa Al-Shaiji, the Chairman of the Bahraini Journalists Association, witnessed by board members from both organizations.

During the ceremony, Alderazi highlighted the critical role of this collaboration, pointing to the Journalists Association's vital role in civil society as a representative and protector of journalists' interests, thereby facilitating their ability to freely carry out their media duties. This freedom is supported by the democratic reform initiatives championed by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, which safeguard freedom of opinion and expression.

Alderazi remarked, "Journalists and media professionals in Bahrain are central in shaping public opinion and play an integral role in advancing the reform and sustainable development agenda." He commended the advancements in Bahraini journalism, particularly its effective use of various platforms to advocate for national issues, and confirmed NIHR's commitment to ensuring Bahrain adheres to international press freedom standards.

For his part, Al-Shaiji expressed deep appreciation for NIHR's constructive partnership under Alderazi's leadership. He noted that the agreement would bolster collaborative efforts between the association and NIHR on numerous fronts concerning the journalistic profession and its contributions to Bahrain's development under the wise guidance of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. He emphasized the supportive legal framework established by His Majesty's reform projects and the government's measures under His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to empower journalism within the kingdom's flourishing progress, ensuring its role is conducted with utmost professionalism.

Al-Shaiji highlighted the potential for expanded joint ventures between the association and NIHR, aiming to leverage NIHR’s extensive expertise to support journalistic endeavors and organize mutually beneficial activities that align with both entities' objectives, reiterating his gratitude for NIHR’s readiness to execute the agreement, which promises to deliver significant advantages to journalists.

This partnership is designed to cultivate a deeper understanding and develop cooperative frameworks in the human rights sector, with both parties committed to reinforcing human rights standards and sharing knowledge and insights. The collaboration will extend to creating human rights-related reports and studies, as well as organizing pertinent educational workshops and conferences.
