30 Oct 2025

Eng. Ali Ahmed Alderazi, Chairperson of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), affirmed that the issuance of the Press and Electronic Media Law following the Royal ratification represents a significant step forward in strengthening the legislative guarantees for freedom of opinion and expression in the Kingdom of Bahrain. He noted that the law aligns with the Constitution, the National Action Charter, and international human rights conventions, reflecting the State’s commitment to regulating media work in accordance with professional and human rights standards that ensure freedom of expression and protect the rights of journalists and media professionals, while promoting a culture of responsibility and respect for societal values within the framework of the rule of law and institutions.

Alderazi pointed out that the law constitutes an important addition to the national framework for the protection of human rights, particularly in light of the rapid development of digital media. It strikes a balance between freedom of publication, the protection of privacy, and the prevention of hate speech and incitement, in line with relevant international standards.

He concluded by emphasizing the importance of ensuring that the new law contributes to consolidating media practices based on respect for human rights, and to enhancing Bahrain’s regional and international standing through the modernization of its legislation in line with contemporary human rights and media developments.
