NIHR Participates in the Universal Children’s Day Exhibition
The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), represented by Dr. Maha Al Shehab, the Child Rights Commissioner, along with a number of staff from the General Secretariat, participated in the Universal Children’s Day Exhibition organized by the National Committee for Childhood at the Ministry of Social Development under the theme “Our Dreams Grow”. The two-day event, held at The Avenues, coincided with the celebration of Universal Children’s Day.
During its participation, the NIHR presented a variety of awareness and interactive activities designed for children and their families within the exhibition pavilions. The activities included several distinctive stations, most notably the “My Rights and My Responsibilities” corner, which aimed to introduce children to their fundamental rights, such as the rights to health, education, personal safety, identity, and rest. The program also featured the “Test Your Knowledge” corner, offering direct engagement with children through awareness questions on children’s rights, in addition to a coloring corner where NIHR coloring booklets were distributed to foster creative interaction with children.
A set of visual clips was also displayed on the exhibition’s designated screen, explaining the complaint-submission mechanism in a simplified manner that contributes to enhancing children’s—especially those with disabilities—access to NIHR services, as part of its efforts to ensure accessibility for all groups.
The NIHR’s participation comes in line with its role in promoting and disseminating a culture of child rights, strengthening community awareness of children’s rights and responsibilities, and contributing to the provision of a safe and nurturing environment that supports children’s growth and well-being, in accordance with national legislation and relevant international standards.
