NIHR Conducts a Visit to the Bahrain (MS) Patients Society

Based upon the broad mandate granted to the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) in the field of protecting and promoting human rights, and the jurisdiction granted to it under the provisions of its Establishment Law, the NIHR Committee for Visiting Detention Places and Facilities under the chairpersonship of  D. Malallah Al-Hammadi, and membership of D. Hourria Hassan, visited the headquarters of the Bahrain MS Patients Society, with the aim of discussing the challenges and examining the difficulties faced by the Society and MS patients with regard to the services provided and the facilities granted, and the extent to which patients enjoy their right to treatment and healthcare in accordance with national legislation and international human rights standards.

During the visit, Ms. Nahla Abu Al-Fath, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Society, and Mr. Haitham Al-Sheikh, a member of the Society, were interviewed, and the challenges facing the Society were listened to, whether those related to the role of the NGO Support Department at the Ministry of Social Development, or those related to the provision of healthcare from government hospitals, where the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Society praised the efforts of the Kingdom of Bahrain in providing treatment for patients with multiple sclerosis, and the services provided to them, and thanked the NIHR for its efforts in the field of protecting and promoting human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

For his part, Dr. Al-Hammadi explained that a comprehensive report will be prepared on all the points raised at the meeting, including observations and recommendations, which will be sent to the relevant authorities to get their opinions and work with them to find appropriate solutions.
