04 Nov 2021

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) welcomes the announcement by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister regarding the Kingdom of Bahrain’s pledge to support the four major international initiatives in the field of climate change, represented in the Global Ocean Alliance Initiative, the Global Methane Pledge, the Green Environment Initiative and the UAE Strategic Initiative to Achieve Climate Neutrality by 2050, in the 26th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26).

The NIHR appreciates Bahrain’s approval of these four international initiatives, which reflects the great interest that the wise leadership attaches to issues related to climate change, based on its keenness to implement Sustainable Development Goals, since climate action is the 13th UN Sustainable Development Goal.

The NIHR believes that the challenges resulting from climate change threaten the human rights of millions of people in all parts of the world, stressing that the International Human Rights Law provides for the protection of those affected by climate change in addition to providing the necessary means of adaptation so that everyone could enjoy a decent life by working to regulate the emission of greenhouse gases and mobilizing sufficient resources to mitigate the effects of climate change.
